Newcastle United player ratings as Magpies keep their Champions League last 16 hopes alive.

Newcastle United were denied a famous win in Paris Saint-Germain via a late Kylian Mbappe penalty.

Alexander Isak's first half goal looked to be the difference between the two sides until Mbappe converted from the spot in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

The spot-kick was awarded in controversial fashion after the ball hit the chest of Tino Livramento before striking his arm.

Eddie Howe's side, without 14 senior players either through injury, suspension or ineligibility, were unchanged from Saturday's 4-1 win over Chelsea.

After riding out the early PSG onslaught, the Magpies took the lead in the 24th minute when Miguel Almiron's shot was parried by Gianluigi Donnarumma and into the path of Isak, who tapped home from close range.

The Sweden international became the first Newcastle player to score an away goal in the Champions League since Alan Shearer two decades ago.

The hosts piled on the pressure in the second half and after missed chance after missed chance, it felt as though it was to be Newcastle's night until the referee pointed to the spot in the closing minutes.
