Newcastle United are monitoring Leeds United star Crysensio Summerville and could make a move for the player if the Whites are relegated from the Premier League.

Football Insider report the Magpies are amongst a number of clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, who are keeping tabs on Summerville as Leeds face an uncertain Premier League future.

Javi Gracia’s side picked up a point against Leicester City on Tuesday night but have failed to win in four games and sit just two points above the bottom three having played a game more.

Summerville enjoyed a strong run of form before the Qatar World Cup, scoring four games in a row as Leeds beat Liverpool and Bournemouth in between losses against Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur.

He provided an assist in the 2-2 draw with West Ham in December as well as claiming one in the 4-2 victory at Wolves. Leeds could lose a number of players if they were to drop into the Championship, with Summerville one man attracting interest.

However, the Netherlands Under-21 international does have three years remaining on his deal at Elland Road. He signed a three-year contract when he signed for the club in 2020 but penned a four-year extension last summer to keep him at the club until 2026.

Newcastle are set to have a big say in the Premier League relegation battle as they face Everton and Southampton in their next two games before taking on Leeds and Leicester next month.

Speaking after their 1-1 draw with Leicester, Leeds United manager Javi Gracia said: “We had started leading then we conceded the goal near the end and had some chances. We worked for that. We are disappointed we missed some chances but we take one point and try to do it again in the next game.

“I’m happy because we followed the plan with a good attitude. They show high commitment to the club and the situation we are living. This way we are closer to the three points.

“We have different options to play up front. In this case we chose Rodrigo and Patrick Bamford, knowing we would need to play more direct in some parts of the game.

“The dressing room is really disappointed but we have a point and we have to play five games, being ready to be at our best.”
