Newcastle United pre-season fixtures: Dates, times and how to watch

The Magpies will take on a number of familiar faces during their pre-season schedule.

Newcastle United have started to return to training ahead of their run of pre-season matches.

The players who weren’t involved with international duty over the break arrived at the training ground yesterday ahead of what will be a busy and gruelling season for the Magpies as they are set to compete in the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali will not be in action for the Toon’s first two friendlies due to their participation in the Under 21 Euros. The rest of the squad is expected to gradually return this week.

Newcastle’s seven friendlies are likely to be streamed live on either NUFCTV or Sky Sports, although that is subject to official confirmation.

Saturday 15 July: Gateshead (Gateshead International Stadium)

Newcastle will take on their National League neighbours Gateshead at the International Stadium this Saturday at 12:30pm.

The Magpies took on Gateshead last year, albeit behind closed doors, with the Toon winning 5-1.

As expected, the match is sold-out.

Tuesday 18 July: Rangers (Ibrox Stadium)

The Magpies will be travelling up to Glasgow next week to play Rangers in a friendly and testimonial match for Allan McGregor.

The goalkeeper left the Ibrox side at the end of the season and the game is in honour of his service to the club.

8,000 Geordies will be making the journey north of the border for the head-to-head, kicking off at 7:45pm.

Sunday 23 July: Aston Villa (Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia)

Newcastle United will be travelling to the USA at the end of the month for the inaugural Summer Series, taking on three Premier League sides in friendlies for American fans.

The first match-up will be against Aston Villa in Philadelphia at 7pm local time and 12am on 24th July UK time.

The Magpies will be seeking revenge on Villa after they were beaten 3-0 in April.

Wednesday 26 July: Chelsea (Mercedes Benz Stadium, Atlanta)

8:15 pm Atlanta time, 01:15 am the following morning UK time, Newcastle will be taking on Chelsea- a repeat of the last game of the season.

Friday 28 July: Brighton (Red Bull Arena, New Jersey)

In their final game of the Summer Series, Newcastle will be taking on Brighton.

7:30 pm local time but 12:30am on Saturday morning UK time.

Saturday 5 August: Fiorentina (St James’ Park)

Last week it was announced St James’ Park will host the inaugural Sela Cup, a tournament which will see Eddie Howe’s side in action against Italian side Fiorentina on the first day of action.

Kick-off is at 3:30pm and tickets are still available.

If you buy a ticket for Saturday you’ll also be able to see Nice in action against Villareal and Newcastle United Women against West Brom Women.

Sunday 6 August: Villarreal (St James’ Park)

And the final match of United’s pre-season will be at 4pm against Villareal, closing the Sela Cup tournament.

Earlier in the day you also have the chance to see Fiorentina against Nice
