Newcastle United predicted starting XI vs Manchester United as Eddie Howe forced into change

Newcastle United predicted starting XI to face Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Newcastle United face Manchester United tonight (kick-off 8pm) hoping to clinch only their second-ever Premier League victory at Old Trafford.

You have to go back 11 years for the last - and only - time the Magpies have won a league match at Old Trafford when a Yohan Cabaye goal secured a 1-0 win. Eddie Howe’s side will look to take inspiration from that and their 3-0 Carabao Cup victory last year.

Newcastle head into the match seven points above the Red Devils, who lost 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day. Since succeeding Erik ten Hag as manager at the beginning of November, Ruben Amorim has won two of his seven top-flight fixtures in charge.

As a result, Newcastle are favourites to win.

"They're very difficult fixtures regardless of when you go but I think, for us, we try and attack the game as we have done in recent weeks,” said Howe. “We've had really good preparations to our games and the players seem to be enjoying themselves, entering the game with the right frame of mind to play.

"We've got to try and hit that sweet spot again without any distractions. I'm sure the players will be ready for the games."

The Magpies will assess Kieran Trippier and Tino Livramento's fitness. Against Aston Villa last time out, Trippier got through 78 minutes on his first start since October while Livramento missed out through illness.
