Newcastle United predicted starting XI vs Nottingham Forest: Huge call with new signing left out
Newcastle United host newly-promoted Nottingham Forest in their Premier League opener - with Eddie Howe faced with some difficult selection calls.
For the first time in a LONG time, the Magpies kick-off a new campaign with genuine hope and optimism about what potentially lies ahead.
Under Mike Ashley, there was a constant worry. Under the new owners however, there is a feeling that anything is possible.
But a lot of that will take time, and in the meantime, Howe’s side are looking to improve on last season’s 11th-placed finish.
And first up is Steve Cooper’s Forest, who have been very busy in this summer’s transfer window following their promotion via the Championship play-offs.
Indeed, Howe has a few of selection dilemmas, including who will start in goal and which centre-back pairing he will opt for.
Here, NewcastleWorld predicts the Newcastle United starting XI Howe will name to take on Nottingham Forest in front of a sellout St James’ Park.

1. GK: Nick Pope
A tough call for Howe, who also has Martin Dubravka at his disposal. But, it’s his summer signing that is tipped to get the nod.

2. RB: Kieran Trippier
An automatic pick, despite Emil Krafth’s strong form, after returning from a broken metatarsal.

3. CB: Fabian Schar
Got better and better as last season progressed under Howe to earn him a new two-year contract.

4. CB: Dan Burn
There’s an eagerness to see Sven Botman in action but Howe may ease him like Bruno. Let’s not forget how good Burn was last season. Photo: Stu Forster
