Newcastle United predicted XI v Man City: £57m duo dropped as Anthony Gordon decision made

Newcastle United predicted starting XI for FA Cup quarter-final clash against Manchester City.

Newcastle United take on Manchester City for the fourth time this campaign with a place in the FA Cup semi-finals on the line.

Eddie Howe's side knocked last season's treble winners out of the Carabao Cup in September, however have lost both Premier League meetings to City, who claimed a 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium before an injury time winner from Oscar Bobb secured a 3-2 victory at St James' Park in January.

United have beaten Sunderland, Fulham and Blackburn Rovers away from home to reach the last eight stage but the Etihad is a ground the club hasn't won at for 10 years. The odds are stacked against the visitors, but Howe insists his side can cause an upset.

"We'll have a right go," said Howe. "We'll attack it and try to progress to the next round. We can do it. I've got no doubt about that.

"Of course, we've got to get our game plan right, execute it to the highest level and we probably need a bit of luck along the way as well but we'll go there in a positive mood and give it our very best."

Newcastle hope to have Anthony Gordon available despite the winger withdrawing with a knee injury during Monday's 3-2 defeat to Chelsea. Gordon was called up by England for the first time on Thursday and trained with his Magpies teammates on Friday.

However, United will be without Kieran Trippier and Harvey Barnes as they look to advance into the last four of the competition for the first time in 20 years.
