Newcastle United remain in ‘pole position’ to sign Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney despite reported interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.

The Magpies are widely believed to be in the market for a left-sided defender during the summer transfer window as they look to boost their squad in preparation for a return to the Champions League. A number of options have been assessed, including Monza star Carlos Augusto, Internazionale’s Federico Dimarco and Benfica’s Alex Grimaldo, who has since joined Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer.

However, talk of a move for Tierney has continued throughout the last few months and Football Insider have now reported the Magpies are ready to make a ‘formal bid’ for the Gunners star over the next fortnight, with the first two weeks of July said to be ‘pivotal’ for the potential move.

Aston Villa and City are said to be ‘waiting in the wings’ if Newcastle do not complete a move for a player much admired by Eddie Howe and his coaching staff.

Magpies ‘target’ set to leave Premier League rivals

Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo is reportedly set to leave the Cottagers this summer after talks over an extended contract came to an unsuccessful conclusion.

The former Manchester City defender has enjoyed a successful three-year stay at Craven Cottage and helped his side to a tenth placed finish in their first season back in the Premier League last time out. His form in West London fired speculation over a possible call-up to the England squad and the has also been talk suggesting the likes of Newcastle, Monaco and Internazionale were considering a summer move for the 25-year-old centre-back.

With speculation over Adarabioyo’s future still ongoing, journalist Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to give a major update on the defender’s future as he makes his way into the final year of his current contract.

He said: “Understand Tosin Adarabioyo’s set to leave Fulham this summer — as talks about new deal are now over. Fulham wanted to keep Tosin — but now could be forced to sell to avoid losing him for free when his contract expires next year. Tosin, 100% keen on new chapter.”
