Newcastle United could rival PSG for ex-Bundesliga star amid plans to ‘spend big’ on defenders

Newcastle United are preparing to return to Premier League action this week.

The Magpies are in action against Tottenham on Sunday, hoping to return to winning ways after a disappointing defeat to Everton before the international break.

But for now, the internationals are continuing, and we still have the best part of a week to go until the Premier League returns.

Fresh Dembele links

Fresh links have emerged between Newcastle and Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

The winger is on course to leave Camp Nou for nothing this summer, having still not penned a new contract.

Dembele has been linked with Newcastle on and off, despite his very large wages, and the latest report from Diario AS, claims PSG are favourites but that the Magpies could pounce if the Ligue 1 giants can’t get a deal over the line.

Defender chase

Newcastle could still move for two high-profile defenders this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The Magpies snapped up Dan Burn during the winter transfer window, but Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has suggested it won’t have much of an impact on this summer’s plans to strengthen significantly at the back.

He told Give Me Sport: “I don’t think what he [Burn] has done will have any impact at all on Newcastle’s plans for the summer.

“I still expect them to spend big, and I expect them to bring in at least one, if not two international centre-backs, even with Dan Burn there.”
