A year ago today, Newcastle United stunned the world when they recorded an emphatic 4-1 victory against French champions Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League group stage.
Miguel Almiron kicked off a night to remember at St James’ Park when he coolly slotted home a left footed shot from the right side of the box to beat Gianluigi Donnarumma - a finish which marked Newcastle’s goal in the competition since Alan Shearer’s against Inter Milan in 2003.
As the game progressed Newcastle’s high press and intensity became too much for PSG to handle as Geordie duo Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff both got on the scoresheet.
Lucas Hernandez looked to try and make things nervy with a fine header for the visitors, but the standout moment of the night was reserved for Newcastle defender Fabian Schar who topped off a famous European night with a sensational strike from distance in added time.
Too many supporters that win marked one of Newcastle’s most memorable European performances and one which should inspire the players in this season’s campaign as the Magpies target a return to football on the continent.
But what is Newcastle United’s best ever European night? Here Newcastle World counts down the top 10.
