Newcastle United have reportedly been handed a boost in their bid to add a new defender to their squad this summer.

Reports in Italy suggest Serie A club Torino are willing to part company with prized asset Gleison Bremer as the Brazilian centre-back continues to draw interest.

The Magpies were linked with a move for Bremer during the January transfer window before turning their attention towards what would be a successful bid for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Dan Burn.

Bremer continues to be of interest to the Magpies’ hierarchy as they look to further enhance their defensive options this summer - but they face competition from the Premier League and abroad.

Spurs have a longstanding interest and they have been joined by Atletico Madrid and Serie A trio Napoli, Juventus and Inter in monitoring the defender’s current situation.

However, Italian outlet CalcioMercato have reported Torino are only willing to allow Bremer to join a Premier League club in the hope of receiving a sizable fee that could be beyond the reach of clubs in Spain and Italy.

Bremer is believed to be rated at around £42million by his current club and is represented by the CAA Base agency.

The Magpies enjoy a positive relationship with Base, who represent January signings Dan Burn and Kieran Trippier, as well as academy youngsters Dylan Stephenson and Ellis Stanton.
