Newcastle United release Alexander Isak injury update amid social media storm

Alexander Isak ‘injury’ rumours have been circling on social media in recent days - but Newcastle United have released an update.

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been pictured in training ahead of the club’s Premier League clash with West Ham United on Monday.

Fears had been growing on social media that the player would join a growing list of teammates on the injured list at Benton.

Just this week Sven Botman has been ruled out of the Carabao Cup final - and likely the rest of the season - with a knee problem. And similarly, Lewis Hall has been ruled out of action under the summer, due to a foot problem picked up in the 2-0 loss at Liverpool at the end of last month.

But, Isak was pictured in training, having already been spotted getting official Carabao Cup shots taken by gathered rights holders and broadcasters on Wednesday.

Snaps uploaded to Getty on Wednesday night, courtesy of club photographer Serena Taylor, show Isak doing running drills at the club’s training base. They do, however, appear to show the player training alone, although it’s hard to confirm without wider context.

Will Alexander Isak be fit for the Carabao Cup final?

Well, he might be in training, but that’s no guarantee he will be 100% fit.

The next big marker will be what Eddie Howe discusses at his weekly press conference. That takes place at 9am on Friday, with quotes embargoed until 9.30am.

From that briefing we should get some further details on whether Isak is fit and firing, or whether he’s a doubt for the trip to East London on Monday evening. And his fitness in that encounter, and how he comes through the game, will be a big indicator as to whether Newcastle fans should carry any worry for their talisman’s availability for the Wembley showdown with Liverpool on March 16.

Speaking after the FA Cup loss to Brighton on Sunday, in which Isak was withdrawn, Howe said: “I think a little bit of fatigue for Alex, I think he worked incredibly hard for us.

“So yeah, I think hopefully no injury just a bit of fatigue and he’ll be fine.”
