Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe issues Allan Saint-Maximin injury update.

Eddie Howe has provided an update on Allan Saint-Maximin after the Newcastle United winger missed the 2-1 win at Brentford.

The Frenchman had started the last four Premier League matches, and registered back-to-back assists in victories over Manchester United and West Ham.

However, he was unable to feature at the Gtech Community Stadium after going for a scan after the 5-1 win at the London Stadium in midweek.

Howe says the 26-year-old could be sidelined for the next two weeks.

“I don’t think it’s serious with Allan,” the Magpies’ head coach said. “He didn’t feel 100 per-cent in the West Ham game so we decided to scan him and it revealed a very minor problem with his hamstring. We knew pretty much straight away he wasn’t going to be available for this game.

“Maybe a couple of weeks - I’m guessing slightly. Nothing too serious but that was a big blow because of the form Allan has been in. But again, we back the strength of the squad.”

Joe Willock replaced Saint-Maximin in the starting XI as United claimed a fifth straight win to further underline their Champions League credentials.

Ivan Toney opened the scoring from the penalty but an own goal from David Raya and a lovely strike by Alexander Isak flipped the game on its head in the second-half.

Howe said: “It was very much a game of two halves. Brentford made it difficult - I thought they were very good. Set plays, direct play - we struggled to get any rhythm in our game. It was unlike us, even in possession we were a little negative with our decision-making.

“I was pleased to get in at half-time, regroup and try and find a way back into the game.”
