Newcastle United rule key man out of Everton trip - nine players now at risk of missing game
Newcastle United will again be without Allan Saint-Maximin for Thursday night’s Premier League visit to Everton (kick-off 7:45pm).
The 25-year-old has been back at the Magpies’ training ground this week after spending just over a fortnight in France working on his recovery.
Saint-Maximin picked up a hamstring injury during the 5-1 win over West Ham United on April 5 and has missed games against Brentford, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
United head coach Eddie Howe initially told the media he hoped the Frenchman would be back in time for Spurs. However, the 45-year-old revealed in the build-up to the game, which United won 6-1, Saint-Maximin’s recovery was taking a little longer than anticipated.
Speaking to the media ahead of the trip to Goodison Park, Howe confirmed Saint-Maximin won’t feature. He said: “Yeah he’s back. He’s working hard to try and get fully fit. We’re pleased to have him back. It’s too early for [Thursday].”
Howe also revealed he’ll make late calls on a few players, including Fabian Schar, who limped off on Sunday with hamstring pain.
Meanwhile, Everton also have injury problems of their own. NewcastleWorld takes a look at the players who are ruled out, and who are doubtful.
