Newcastle could see the prospect as one for the future at St. James’ Park. They are on course to be playing in Europe next season meaning they will need some more depth in their squad.

Wirtz, who is from Pulheim, was in the academy at FC Koln before joining Bayer Leverkusen back in 2020. He has since broken into their first-team and is a key player under former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso.

The youngster was handed his senior debut back in 2019 and hasn’t looked back since. He has made 95 appearances in all competitions to date and has chipped in with 23 goals, four of which have come in this campaign.

Wirtz’s contract at the BayArena expires in the summer of 2026 meaning his current club are under no pressure to cash in on him in the upcoming transfer window. However, they could face a battle to if Newcastle decide to come in with a big money bid as they eye additions.
