Newcastle United set to make ex-Celtic kid their seventh summer signing for ‘five figure fee’

Newcastle United have reportedly agreed a deal to sign young goalkeeper Jude Smith from Scottish club East Fife.

The 19-year-old went on trial with the Magpies last month having previously trained with Championship side Stoke City weeks prior.

And according to the Daily Record, Newcastle have agreed a ‘five figure fee’ to bring the former Celtic youngster to St James’ Park.

He is set to link up with the academy, either in the under-18s or under-21s set up.

Smith played more than 28 games for Scottish League Two side East Fife last season after making the switch from Celtic.

The Magpies have made a big effort to strengthen their academy ranks this summer.

Alex Murphy arrived from Galway United to join Elliot Dickman’s under-21s squad, while Charlie McArthur has linked up with the under-18s after joining from Kilmarnock.

United also confirmed the arrival of left-back Jordan Hackett following his release from Tottenham Hotspur.

Adding in the first team arrivals of Matt Targett, Nick Pope and Sven Botman, Smith takes United’s new incomings count to seven.
