Eddie Howe’s side have brought two new players to St James’ Park so far this month.
Eighteen-year-old Garang Kuol joined from A-League side Central Coast Mariners before being loaned to Hearts for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.
The Magpies then finally sealed Anthony Gordon’s signature for £45million having first attempted to sign the Liverpool-born forward last summer.
After Gordon’s arrival on Sunday, and West Ham’s Harrison Ashby on route, Howe was ready to declare United’s winter transfer business over - until Nottingham Forest came in for Jonjo Shelvey.
Howe was reluctant to let the 30-year-old go, but accepted his wishes to pursue the move and sign a two-and-a-half-year contract. But Shelvey might not be the only departure.
Here’s the transfer Newcastle United could still finalise before the 11pm deadline:

2. SET TO LEAVE: Karl Darlow
Should Nick Pope come through tonight’s Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Southampton unscathed, Darlow will join Championship side Hull City on loan until the end of the campaign.
3. COULD SIGN: Conor Gallagher
Gallagher is understood to be the subject of a £45m bid from Everton, but the midfielder isn’t keen on a relegation scrap. Newcastle could step in, depending on how keen Chelsea are to offload him.
4. COULD SIGN: Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Loftus-Cheek, also at Chelsea, is one of several names Newcastle are considering as they hope to sign a central midfielder to replace Shelvey before tonight’s deadline.
