Newcastle United set to seal three deadline day transfers - talks ongoing over a fourth
It’s January transfer deadline day - and Newcastle United are expected to confirm up to three deals before the 11pm deadline.
Eddie Howe’s side have brought two new players to St James’ Park so far this month.
Eighteen-year-old Garang Kuol joined from A-League side Central Coast Mariners before being loaned to Hearts for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.
The Magpies then finally sealed Anthony Gordon’s signature for £45million having first attempted to sign the Liverpool-born forward last summer.
After Gordon’s arrival on Sunday, and West Ham’s Harrison Ashby on route, Howe was ready to declare United’s winter transfer business over - until Nottingham Forest came in for Jonjo Shelvey.
Howe was reluctant to let the 30-year-old go, but accepted his wishes to pursue the move and sign a two-and-a-half-year contract. But Shelvey might not be the only departure.
Here’s the transfer Newcastle United could still finalise before the 11pm deadline:
The Magpies then finally sealed Anthony Gordon’s signature for £45million having first attempted to sign the Liverpool-born forward last summer.

5. SET TO LEAVE: Jonjo Shelvey
Shelvey has undergone his medical and agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Nottingham Forest. The 30-year-old leaves Newcastle after seven years, where he made 202 appearances.

6. COULD SIGN: Sander Berge
Newcastle are open to signing the midfielder on loan for the rest of the campaign with an option to buy in the summer. But with Fulham pushing for a permanent, and Sheffield United locked in a promotion battle, it’s unclear what will happen.

7. COULD LEAVE: Ryan Fraser
Fraser has fallen down the pecking order at Newcastle, not least after Anthony Gordon’s arrival from Everton. If a late offer arrives, then it’s very likely the Scot will depart.

8. SET TO SIGN: Harrison Ashby
Ashby has been in the North East over the last couple of days after Newcastle agreed a £3m fee with West Ham for the young right-back. He’s completed his medical, and a formal announcement is expected to follow soon.
