Newcastle United’s second full season under Eddie Howe has so far been anticlimactic after the joys of Champions League qualification last term. As it stands the Magpies are 10th in the league and lagging behind in their pursuit of European football after a series of injury issues and an early exit in the Champions League 'Group of Death'.

However, Newcastle still have a final chance at redemption in the FA Cup quarter-final, although they face the unenviable task of travelling to holders Manchester City, who they have beaten just twice away from home since the turn of the century.

Eddie Howe’s men have plenty of work to do in the summer to improve their team and get even closer to the top sides in the division. One of the main areas that the recruitment team are believed to be monitoring is the frontline, according to reports from SportBild.

The outlet understands that left sided winger Omar Marmoush is one of the club’s top targets in the summer transfer window, though Tottenham are also believed to be keeping a close eye on 25-year-old.

Marmoush is rapidly emerging as one of most coveted wingers in European football and this is unsurprising given his exceptional run of form for Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga.

So far this term, Marmoush has fired in 15 goals and six assists from 32 outings this season, leaving his side sixth in the table, and through to the Europa Conference League knockout stages.

Like Anthony Gordon, he is capable of playing on either the left hand side of attack or as a centre forward, which is a crucial asset given the recent injury struggles of both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson. Sport Bild understands that the talented winger is valued at around £26.5m, although this fee could increase if Tottenham were to enter a bidding war with the Magpies.
