By his own admission, Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes was far from his best at Brighton - but that hasn’t stopped him offering the Magpies’ faithful praise.

Guimaraes arguably had his worst game since signing for the club in January. However, even near untouchable Brazilian midfielders can have the odd dip in performance.

And addressing the show, in United’s 0-0 stalemate at the Amex Stadium, Bruno revealed his thoughts on his performance - and the result.

£40million winter window arrival from Lyon, Guimaraes said: “Not even close to be my best game, but we keep 1 important point and another clean sheat, let’s keep working for the news challenges. Thanks Geordies for the best support as always.”

Speaking about the result, head coach Eddie Howe said: “Always disappointed not to win but very pleased with a point in the end, especially after the second-half.

“I thought it was a difficult second-half, Brighton played very well. We rode our luck at times but dug in and showed a great spirit and unity. We got a valuable point.”
