The Newcastle United star has confirmed his return ahead of the Premier League meeting with Brighton.

Newcastle United are set to welcome back Kieran Trippier for this afternoon’s Premier League home game against Brighton and Hove Albion (kick-off 3pm).

The Magpies have been without Trippier for the past nine weeks after he picked up a calf injury during the 3-0 against Wolverhampton Wanderers on March 2.

The 33-year-old admitted to taking “extra precautions” but stepped up his return last week when he travelled to the NAS Sports Complex in Dubai with a Newcastle fitness coach.

Trippier then resumed first-team training this week and United boss Eddie Howe revealed on Friday that a late decision would be made on his involvement versus Brighton.

"Kieran is getting closer; he has trained this week,” said Howe. “It was the first time with the group. He trained well, it has been a good week for him. I will make a decision today whether he will be involved tomorrow."

And Trippier has seemingly confirmed his return. On Instagram, hours before the kick-off, the right-back uploaded a personalised matchday graphic.

The visit of Brighton is Newcastle’s final home of the game 2023-24 campaign. Next week, they make the midweek trip to Manchester United before ending the season at Brentford.

While Trippier will hope to help his teammates get over the line in terms of European qualification, his focus is also on Euro 2024 this summer. Given his age, that is likely to be Trippier’s final major tournament with England. Speaking previously about his injury, Trippier said: I’ve had a calf issue and at this stage of the season, and with the amount of games I’ve played, we need to take extra precautions. It’s important that there are no setbacks - I don’t want to come back and re-injure myself, so I’m just ticking every box.

“But the main thing is that the team has been winning games, and I’ll be back soon to help them try and secure European qualification.”
