It was a big night for Newcastle United as they secured a point in their first Champions League match in 20 years.

Their 0-0 draw against AC Milan had a lot to be proud of and so the feeling amongst the players was that of pride and content. This is especially true of Nick Pope, who for many was the man of the match after his incredible performance in denying the home team a goal despite them having nine shots on target.

And naturally his teammates are proud and grateful for the performance their goalkeeper gave, taking to social media to show their thanks.

Pope posted a collection of photos to Instagram, writing: ‘Journey begins. Good point in Milan.’

This opened up the floor for an outpouring of love from the other players, with a few of them bestowing him with a handful of hilarious nicknames.

Sean Longstaff came in with the absolute classic that is ‘No 1 kitten,’ while Bruno came in even stronger with ‘Big dog.’

Miguel Almiron’s comment was slightly more abstract, however, commenting a flurry of emojis including the all important octopus.

All of these nicknames solidify the incredible performance put in by the goalie. Agile, immovable and- it seemed- eight-limbed.
