Callum Wilson believes Newcastle United's impressive form in a number of competitions will help them attract new players in the January transfer window.

Despite suffering from a lengthy list of injuries for the majority of the season, the Magpies are still in the hunt for a top four place after claiming impressive wins over the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea in recent weeks.

Eddie Howe's side also face two major dates with destiny over the coming weeks as they look to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League when they host AC Milan before travelling to Chelsea for a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie.

There was another intriguing angle thrown into the Magpies season after they were paired with local rivals Sunderland in the FA Cup third round draw on Sunday afternoon as Howe and his players travel to the Stadium of Light on the first weekend of the new year.

That week will also coincide with the opening of the January transfer window and the Magpies have already been linked with a whole host of weird and wonderful names, with speculation over possible moves for David De Gea and Aaron Ramsdale hitting the headlines after Nick Pope was ruled out for up for five months with a shoulder injury.

Wilson, who is still making his way back from a hamstring injury, has admitted he is not surprised by potential signings being attracted to a possible move to St James Park as his side continue to push on a number of fronts.

“Yeah I’m sure everyone wants to come to Newcastle right now. Because it’s a club to be at really,” he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.

“We’re playing good football, we’re in the Champions League. We’re pushing again this season. We’ve got quarter-finals, we’ve got Sunderland coming up in January, so there’s a lot of appetite for people to want to come and join us.”
