Bruno Guimaraes has been hailed as one of Newcastle United’s best signings in recent years after his sparkling performance in Wednesday night’s 1-0 win against Everton.

The Brazil international has quickly become a popular figure since he moved to St James Park in a £38m deal from French club Lyon in the January transfer window.  After playing a lead role in helping the Magpies escape relegation last season, Bruno has improved even further during the current campaign and has received widespread acclaim for his performances in a black and white shirt.

The likes of Gary Neville, Alan Shearer and Jamie Carragher have all heaped praise on the 24-year-old after a string of consistency impressive displays and former Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards joined his list of admirers as he assessed Bruno’s performance in the narrow win over Frank Lampard’s side.

He told BBC Match of the Day: “It was all parts of his game.  We know what he can do going forward.  He’s got a lovely technique and touch about him, one-touch, two-touch, playing it wide.  (He) gets in little areas and what you’re thinking in your head, he does straightaway.  He’s up against Onana, Gueye today, it was a tough battle in there, but it was all about him.

“Every time he got on the ball, can we pass forward?  Can we dictate the pace of the game?  This is a side I loved about him as well, putting the work in for his team, running back, he was out of position here, but he’s got the tenacity.  An all-round great performance from one of the best signings for Newcastle in recent years.”

Bruno will hope to continue his impressive form by helping United claim something from a tough-looking trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.
