Newcastle United star left out of international squad through injury - is doubtful for West Ham
Gareth Southgate has confirmed Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson was left out of the latest England squad “because he’s carrying an injury”.
Kieran Trippier was the only Magpies’ representative named in the squad with goalkeeper Nick Pope again overlooked, as were the likes of Anthony Gordon and Sean Longstaff for a first call-up.

Hide AdWilson has missed United’s last three matches against Manchester City, Burnley and Paris Saint-Germain because of hamstring tightness and is a doubt for Sunday afternoon’s visit to West Ham United, the final Premier League game before the two-week break.
Southgate said he was “uncertain” if the 31-year-old would be available for the upcoming friendly against Australia and the Euro 2024 qualifier versus Italy.
“There’s a little bit [going on] with Callum Wilson as well because he’s carrying an injury and I’m not certain he’d be available,” said the Three Lions boss.
Which begs the question, does that rule Wilson out for the Hammers away trip? Howe, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, revealed he’d make a late call.

“We’ll have and see how Callum [Wilson] & Joelinton are. They’re probably the closest. Anthony [Gordon] is suspended which is another blow for us. Sven [Botman] won’t make it.”
