Newcastle United striker Chris Wood has issued an update on his situation ahead of his St James’ Park exit.

Wood was signed by Newcastle in 2022, going on to make 35 Premier League appearances and scoring four times in the league, but his time at the club will be short-lived. The New Zealand international joined Nottingham Forest on loan for the back-end of last season, and he will not return from the City Ground.

That’s because the loan deal included a clause that would trigger a permanent move. It was agreed by both clubs that if Wood started just three league games for Forest, his move would be automatically made permanent.

The move is said to be worth around £15million for Newcastle, who will lose around £15million on the frontman, and the transfer will become official on June 14, when the transfer window officially opens.

Though, pre-season has started early for Wood due to missing time towards the end of last season through a thigh injury. The striker is now working towards full fitness ahead of pre-season, and he has posted a video of himself working in the gym, saying: “Trust the process. Working hard to come back stronger. 💪.”

Wood is in Forest gear, with his permanent move no secret at this point. The move works out well for all parties, with Newcastle having no room for Wood due to the presence of Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, who would both be ahead of Wood in the pecking order.
