The former Arsenal midfielder was restricted to just 14 appearances last season due to an ongoing Achilles injury.
After missing the beginning of the campaign, Willock returned in October only to suffer a recurrence the following month. He then came back again in February but continued to feel pain. The Magpies then took the decision to rest him for the remaining six matches.

“It's been made clear to him that surgery wouldn't be beneficial to him. The Achilles is improving well from the original injury he had and hopefully we can get to the situation where he is playing freely next season.”
Following his period of rest, Willock has stepped up his recovery in the off-season and has told fans on Instagram he is “feeling ready”. The caption accompanied images of him in the gym and on the grass with a ball at his feet.
Addressing his injury earlier this year, Willock said: “It's been a long journey for me on the sidelines and very heartbreaking to be honest and one of the hardest times of my career.

They've helped me a lot and a real brotherhood in the club so it means a lot to come back and be back out on the pitch with them. I was wanting to win, unfortunately we didn't but I'm happy to be back and hopefully I can stay back now and stay fit."
The majority of Eddie Howe’s squad, excluding those with international commitments, are due report back for pre-season within the next fortnight.
United head to Germany for a behind closed doors training camp before returning to the UK to take on Hull City at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday, July 27.
Immediately after the friendly, they jet off to Toyko for two fixtures against Yokohama and Urawa Red Diamonds. Their preparations for the new Premier League season end with the Sela weekender when Girona and Stade Brestois visit St James’ Park.
