The Magpies star has enjoyed a productive summer with the Three Lions and will hope to make an impact on his return to Tyneside.

Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon has been described as ‘a pleasure to work with’ by one of his former managers.

The former Everton star will head into his first full season on the back of helping England become Euro Under-21 champions with a 1-0 win over Spain in the final earlier this month. Gordon played in all six games during the tournament and scored in a group stage win against Israel and the quarter-final victory over Portugal, as well as providing an assist in the Three Lions opening game against the Czech Republic.

His performances saw the Magpies star follow in the footsteps of the likes of Portugal legend Luis Figo and Italy icon Andrea Pirlo after he was named as player of the tournament - an acheivement Gordon immediately put down to his team-mates.

He said: “I'm absolutely delighted. I feel I have had a good tournament, but me with the individual trophy is down to my team-mates and the staff. The squad is really unselfish. Six or seven of us might have won it, that shows how good we've been.”

Gordon has also received further backing from his former Everton manager Frank Lampard after he named the United forward alongside Manchester United new boy Mason Mount and AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori as young players he has enjoyed working with during his managerial career.

He told The Diary of a CEO Podcast: “I think my biggest pleasure is coaching and improving young players and I’ve had the fortune to work with some really good young players.

“At Derby I had Mason Mount, Harry Wilson, Fikayo Tomori… and then at Chelsea I had Tammy Abraham and at Everton I had Anthony Gordon etc. I think they are the real sponges that are a pleasure to work with.”
