Newcastle United star ruled out for another three weeks - fresh injury blow likely

Kieran Trippier is reportedly not expected to return to Newcastle United action until after the international break.

The 34-year-old has not featured after limping off away at Everton on October 5. NewcastleWorld revealed at the time that Trippier would miss the Brighton clash - which ended in a shock 1-0 defeat.

It has since emerged that the right-back will face an extended spell on the sidelines. Eddie Howe has been keen to take extra precaution with injuries since James Bunce’s appointment as performance director in the summer.

A right-hand man of Paul Mitchell’s, the fitness guru was drafted in to combat the club’s appalling injury record last season. Newcastle lost an unprecedented 1,950 days due to injury last season - a Premier League record.

As for Trippier, the Daily Mail claim he has jetted to Dubai to help with his recovery. The former England international spent time in the Middle East on two previous occasions earlier this year.

Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth have provided cover for Trippier during his three-game absence. While Livramento - a £35million signing from Southampton a year ago - has the higher potential, many are calling for Howe to pick the less fanciable Swede due to his reliability.

Newcastle have won 10 of the 14 games Krafth has started in 2024, with two losses. Conversely, Livramento has yet to replicate last season’s promising form when given the opportunity.

Both players do provide adequate options at Premier League level which means Trippier is in no hurry to return. A possible comeback date could be the home clash with West Ham United on November 25, the game after the upcoming international break.
