Anthony Gordon will miss Newcastle United’s trip to West Ham United as he serves a one-match suspension.

Newcastle United will be without Anthony Gordon for next weekend’s Premier League visit to West Ham United after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season versus Burnley.

The £45million January signing from Everton has been one of the stars of the Magpies’ campaign so far but Eddie Howe will need to make do without the winger when they face the Hammers next Sunday.

As per Premier League rules, reaching five cautions before matchday 20 - which is currently away to Liverpool on December 30 - results in an automatic one-match suspension.

Gordon was booked in wins over Aston Villa and Brentford, plus defeats to Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion. He avoided cautions versus Liverpool and Sheffield United before facing Burnley.

“Of course it’s a concern, yeah,” said Howe when asked about Gordon’s disciplinary situation last week. “Injuries in one position will hurt us this year. We’ve been missing two midfielders and that’s been a concern for us. Losing Harvey won’t be something we’ll take lightly.

“The suspensions are something we’re going to have to live with to a degree with the new rules that are coming in. A couple of Anthony’s bookings have been very harsh. That’s the territory we’re in but that’s why we have the squad that we have to cover anyone’s absence.”

Newcastle are already without Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock, while Callum Wilson and Sven Botman missed the clash against the Clarets.
