Newcastle United’s Brazilian stars have been keeping fit at their hometown clubs as they prepare to link up with the national team for friendlies against Guniea and Senegal later this month.

Bruno Guimaraes has been somewhat of a regular pick for the Selecao having played at last year’s Qatar World Cup. For Joelinton, however, this will be the first time representing his country.

The pair returned to their native Brazil following the conclusion of the Premier League season on May 28. And following a short period of rest, both players have trained at different clubs this week.

Guimaraes visited the training ground of Fluminense, which was shared by both the midfielder and the club on social media.

Fluminense tweeted: “The defensive midfielder Bruno Guimarães is training at CT Carlos Castilho to keep in shape, keeping an eye on commitments with the national team!”

The 25-year-old replied: Thank you @FluminenseFC for opening your ct doors to me in my hometown! In particular, I would like to thank Professor Diniz and all his staff! Gratitude and I wish you all the best.”

Joelinton, meanwhile, returned to Recife Sport, the club he broke through at before moving to Europe to join Bundesliga side 1899 Hoffenheim in 2015.

The 26-year-old, who joined the Magpies from Hoffenheim for £40million in 2019, missed the Premier League final day draw at Chelsea because of injury. It was in the build up to kick-off when Brazil boss Ramon Menezes announced his squad.

"Bruno came over in the dressing room to say Joe had been called up,” said Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe. “Amazing news for someone who, for 18 months, has been incredible for me and the team.

“I felt he was a little bit unlucky not to go to the World Cup because his performances have been that strong for us. He’s had to be patient and he’s handled that disappointment really well.

“He was just normal Joe who went about his work in an incredible way. I’m so pleased for him and his family, it’ll be a proud moment.”

Brazil take on Guinea in Spain on Saturday, June 17 before facing Senegal in Portugal on Tuesday, June 20.
