Newcastle United starting XI vs Ipswich Town confirmed as £40m star drops out

Eddie Howe has named one change to his Newcastle United starting XI for this afternoon’s clash against Ipswich Town (kick-off 3pm).

The Magpies’ line-up had been unchanged for back-to-back wins over Leicester City and Brentford but the loss of Joelinton to suspension has forced a change.

Joe Willock is introduced in place of the Brazilian, who may have missed the match had he been available having sustained a facial injury in midweek following a clash with Nathan Collins

“Yeah he’s okay, he was a little bit battered and bruised with a few stitches I believe around his ear which was quite delicate,” said Howe. “He had a cut mouth so with him not being available this weekend, it’s probably a good thing for him because it allows him to rest those bruises and wounds. Hopefully he’ll be fully fit for the week after.”

United make their first visit to Portman Road since 2017 when they 3-1 in the Championship. The last Premier League meeting was in 2001 when a Nolberto Solano goal sealed a 1-0 win.

Howe’s side could move into the top half of the Premier League table with a victory. Ipswich are yet to record a home win this campaign but are boosted by last week’s last win at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They will, however, be without top scorer Liam Delap, who, like Joelinton, is suspended after reaching the five yellow cards threshold.
