Newcastle United will reportedly have to see off plenty of competition from Premier League rivals if they are sign striker Habib Diallo from Strasbourg. The Toon Army have been linked with a swoop for the prolific Ligue 1 man this summer.

According to French news outlet L’Equipe, he is wanted by top flight trio West Ham, Brentford and Burnley with the transfer window now open. Rennes have also been credited with an interest.

Newcastle could see the attacker as someone to add more competition and depth to their options up top as they prepare for the increased number of fixtures coming their way next term after qualifying for the Champions League in the last campaign. Football Insider claim Eddie Howe’s side have been keeping tabs on him.

Diallo, who is 27-years-old, doesn’t appear short of options and will carefully weigh up his next destination if he is to leave France in the near future. He joined Strasbourg back in 2020 and hasn’t looked back since.

He has scored 40 goals in 100 games so far and is under contract at Stade de la Meinau until 2025 meaning his current club are under no pressure to cash in on him yet unless the price is right. The Thiès-born man started his career at Metz and went on to chip in with 48 goals in 115 matches for them, as well as having a couple of loan moves away at Brest to gain experience.

Newcastle have been patient with their recruitment since the end of last season as they carefully weigh up their options. They obviously have the finances to go and pursue big-money deals but Howe will be eager to bring in the right characters into his tight-knit group.

Diallo appears to be a wanted man and time will tell where he ends up going. He may even stay in France with Rennes keen.
