Newcastle United have now submitted plans for new training ground improvements as their new project continues to grow.

The Magpies are aiming to become a staple of the top four under their ultra-wealthy ownership group, but clubs who want to achieve such a high level of performance each year need to have the infrastructure to do so. Newcastle boast one of the biggest stadiums in the Premier League, and they have a budget to match as their squad continues to get stronger.

But one area they do need to improve is their training base, despite recent efforts at Darsley Park.

Newcastle have implemented a number of improvements at Darsley Park over the last year or so, but to keep up with the impressive facilities established by the likes of Arsenal and Leicester City, they still have plenty to do.

On that note, the Chronicle report that the club have now drawn up and submitted plans for fresh improvements at the training base, proposing a single story extension to the North end of the building with the purpose of expanding the gym area and creating additional office space for recruitment staff.

In their recent application, the club wrote: “Modern professional football demands the provision of bespoke dedicated training facilities to enable teams to compete successfully at the highest levels nationally and internationally.”

It’s claimed the Magpies submitted the plans earlier this month, but they are still waiting on a decision at this point.

Eddie Howe recently spoke about the need for the further improvements, saying: “It’s getting there. The lads have got a couple more rooms to go into. It’s still quite small and there’s still a lot of building work going on. There are certain rooms they can’t go into so it certainly feels that we are very tight together. Hopefully, in a few weeks, that will change and we will feel the benefits of the work going on.”
