One of Newcastle United's greatest legends was spotted at Fulham cheering on Eddie Howe's side to a 2-0 victory.

Club record goalscorer Alan Shearer was spotted in the 3,800-strong away end at Craven Cottage as a goal in either half from Sean Longstaff and Dan Burn sealed the Magpies' passage into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Shearer was sighted late in the second half by the ITV cameras as Newcastle fans loudly chanted his name. Posting on X after the game, the Premier League's record goalscorer said: "Ah man what a f——- night that was. In the away end for the first time since 1985. I bloody loved it. TOON TOON"

On Shearer's presence in the away stand, Howe said after the match: "I thought he must have been in a TV studio near to the supporters which is why they were singing his name. But hearing he was in the stand was a nice moment for us. To have his support and have him cheering us on means a lot."

The 53-year-old perhaps proved to be a good luck charm as Newcastle recorded only their third away win of the season. It was also only the second time United have beaten a Premier League club in FA Cup since 2005.
