Newcastle United sweat over Kieran Trippier injury blow ahead of Aston Villa clash

Kieran Trippier limped off in stoppage time after scoring a free-kick in Newcastle United’s 3-1 win over Everton at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United claimed a massive 3-1 victory over Everton to jump out of the Premier League relegation zone - but it could come at a big cost.

Kieran Trippier, the Magpies’ man of the match and scorer of the third, limped off in stoppage time after signalling to depart.

The England international fell to his knees following a faultless performance at St James’ Park in which his side came from behind to beat Frank Lampard’s Toffees.

And there is now a fear the 31-year-old could miss Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon due to a “slight calf injury”.

‘It’d be devastating to lose him’

“Kieran, I think, has a slight calf injury,” Eddie Howe confirmed in his post-match press conference.

“He motioned that he needed to come off, so we’ll have to assess that later.

“It’d be devastating to lose him given the form he’s in. “

How Kieran Trippier reacted on social media

On the victory, Tripper tweeted: “I’ve missed that feeling!! @NUFC

“Brilliant by everyone tonight! We have worked so hard the last few weeks and that one was a thank you for all your support…let’s keep this run going!”
