Newcastle United certainly have the funds to pursue some high-value transfer targets this summer, but that doesn’t mean they can’t also scope out some transfer window bargains.

Adrien Rabiot is attracting a lot of attention as he nears the end of his current contract with Juventus, and the Magpies have reportedly already made a move for him, despite interest from other clubs.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Newcastle have made an ‘expression of interest’ for the midfielder and have supposedly tabled an offer of €5 million (£4.2 million) per year in wages. This boils down to about £80,700 per week, which is considerably less than what Juventus was paying him.

Rabiot’s current deal with the Italian giants will expire in less than two weeks, meaning there will be a scramble to secure his signature. Gerard Romero recently reported that the France international had been offered to Barcelona to sign him this summer but he also has a lot of interest from other European outfits.

For players looking to embark on a new chapter in their life, Newcastle is definitely an attractive move. After securing Champions League football, Eddie Howe’s team will be eager to push on and continue this upwards trajectory. Plus, the lure of competing in Europe’s highest bracket will also be tempting for potential new signings.

Rabiot spent time with Manchester City during his youth career, but has never played in England as a senior footballer. The 28-year-old spent seven years with Paris Saint-Germain before joining Juventus on a free transfer in 2019. He was heavily linked to a move to Manchester United last summer but a move failed to materialise.

Now, Rabiot is available for free once again and while the Reds remain interested in his services, Newcastle could be ahead of them in the running. The midfielder is highly-rated among many, with former Juve ace David Trezeguet describing his compatriot as a ‘world class, extraordinary player.’
