Newcastle United target 'getting closer' to £26m Liverpool transfer - personal terms agreed
Sources in Spain claimed Newcastle United were plotting a move for the 23-year-old prior to his impressive showing for Georgia at Euro 2024. The Magpies also targeted Burnley’s James Trafford but had a £16million bid rejected.

Hide AdNewcastle’s interest in both players has since cooled following the arrivals of Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy. As part of Elliot Anderson’s PSR-forced £35million move to Nottingham Forest, Eddie Howe’s side agreed to sign Vlachodimos in return while Ruddy penned a one-year contract after he left Birmingham City.
With Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka and Mark Gillespie taking the number of senior goalkeepers up to five, United are well stocked, although question marks remain over Dubravka’s future. As it stands, Eddie Howe’s side are focused on other strengthening other positions, namely a right-sided central defender as talks with Crystal Palace over Marc Guehi continue.
While Trafford is expected to stay at Burnley, Mamardashvili is poised to move to Anfield.

Romano reported last week that Mamardashvili has already agreed personal terms with the Reds. The initial plan had been for the 6ft 6in shotstopper to join AFC Bournemouth on loan, once he had complete his move, however he would prefer that to be Valencia instead.
