He has been in fine form so far this season for Thomas Frank’s side. The winger is under contract at the Gtech Community Stadium until the summer of 2026 meaning his current club are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon and can wait for the right offer.

Newcastle are admirers of Mbeumo but face competition from title chasing Arsenal. The 25-year-old has been on the books at Brentford since joining them back in 2019.

He has since made 210 appearances in all competitions for the London outfit and has scored 58 goals, eight of which have come in this campaign already. The Cameroon international, who has 20 caps under his belt, helped the Bees gain promotion from the Championship in his second year and has since adapted with ease to the step up a division.

Mbeumo started his career with spells as a youngster at both CO Avallonais and Bourgoin-Jallieu. He then linked up with Troyes in 2013 and subsequently rose up through their academy. He was a regular at various different youth levels before breaking into the first-team at Stade de l'Aube. The Avallon-born man found the net on 12 occasions in 46 matches for his previous team whilst they were in Ligue 2.

His emergence saw him land on the radar of Brentford and they ended up making a move for him. He arrived in England as a bit of an unknown quantity but is now one of the best wide players in the Premier League.

Mbeumo would be ideal for Newcastle and would significantly bolster their attacking department. However, the Bees won’t want to lose him and there is likely to be plenty of other suitors.

‘Bigger club’...

Frank has recently said that he believes his star will play for a ‘bigger’ club one day: “He's added another layer this year. I'm convinced one day he'll play for a bigger club. I'd definitely buy him if I were at a bigger club. That said, he's very happy here."

Mbuemo missed a portion of last term due to injury and his head coach admitted that it was a blow to have him unavailable, which highlights how important he is for Brentford: “There is no doubt that Bryan has been one of our most important players and one of our most consistent and best players over many years.

“I’m very happy to have Bryan back. It’s crucial that he’s come back to us. Of course we missed him. We lost five in a row – [the defeat to Brighton on 6 December] was the first of the five – and that spell was the biggest blow.
