Newcastle United target set for shock Rangers transfer

Newcastle United transfer target Aaron Ramsey is set to complete a loan move to Scottish giants Rangers.

The Welsh international has been mentioned in transfer talks amongst the Magpies hierarchy as he looked to bring an end to an underwhelming spell at Juventus.

The former Arsenal midfielder joined the Serie A giants on a free transfer in the summer of 2019 after spending eight years at the Emirates Stadium.

Ramsey scored four goals in 35 appearances during his first season in Turin and added to that tally with a further 30 appearances last season.

But injury problems have limited him to just one start during the current campaign and speculation increased he would return to the Premier League as the January transfer window approached.

A return to Arsenal was mooted and the likes of Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Burnley were also linked with a move for the midfielder - with Sky Sports Italy suggested Ramsey had rejected a move to the latter earlier in the window.

However, The Athletic are now reporting Rangers have secured a deal to take the Wales midfielder on loan and are expecting to complete the deal ahead of Monday night’s deadline.

Ramsey could make his debut in Wednesday night’s Glasgow derby against local rivals Celtic.
