Newcastle United tipped to axe Eddie Howe favourite this summer amid likely 'overhaul'

Newcastle United have been tipped to offload one of the players who features regularly under Eddie Howe.

A fresh claim has been made over the future of one particular Newcastle United star. The Magpies have endured a less than ideal season so far, currently sitting outside the European places, but they remain in with a good chance of finishing inside the top six.

Injuries and the suspension received by summer signing Sandro Tonali have not helped, neither have the Financial Fair Play rules that prevented Newcastle from strengthening significantly during the winter window. The rules are not going away either, and Newcastle are going to need to plan more strategically going forward to ensure they don't find themselves in a corner again.

Part of that equation is player exits, with Howe likely needing to overhaul part of his squad to ensure they continue to improve steadily. The popular Miguel Almiron was heavily linked with an exit at the back end of the winter window before eventually staying put.

The summer may bring a different fate for the Uruguayan, though. at least according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who told GiveMeSport: "I think we will see a reasonable overhaul of that Newcastle team in the summer. Newcastle made it pretty clear that they didn't have massive potential to spend in the transfer market.

"Between now and the summer, I think we will see a big push to define exactly who is going to be part of the squad going forward. I think they will have a big commercial push to bring in extra money and revenue. Players like Almiron will certainly move on. He won't be at Newcastle next season even though he didn't move during the winter window."

Almiron is under contract until 2026 and he remains a key part of Howe's plans, making 33 appearances across all competitions so far this season. But the winger is one of the players Newcastle may feel they can upgrade on while still bringing in a significant fee given he is 29 years of age and within his prime years.
