Newcastle United tipped to beat Everton in race for ‘£20m’ Tottenham talent

The Magpies are one of several Premier League clubs being linked.

Newcastle United are leading the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks this summer, according to bookmakers.

The Toon Army, having comfortably avoided relegation and backed by the wealth of their new owners, are widely expected to be busy in the upcoming transfer window, with a whole host of high-profile names linked to St. James’ Park.

On that list of potential targets is Winks, who has been touted for a move to Tyneside relatively frequently in recent times.

The 26-year-old’s future looks almost certain to lie some place other than Spurs, with the club having reportedly told him and his representatives that they are willing to listen to offers ahead of a possible sale this summer. A fee of around £20 million has been mentioned.

And, at the time of writing, Newcastle are favourites to secure his signature in the coming weeks.

The Magpies are currently priced at 7/2, some way ahead of nearest rivals Crystal Palace, Everton, and Leicester City, who are all at odds of 10/1.

Newly-promoted Bournemouth are priced at 16/1, alongside Wolves, while Southampton round out the chasing pack at a relatively distant 20/1.

Winks has struggled badly for game time in north London in recent months, and hasn’t started a Premier League match for Antonio Conte’s side since a 4-0 win over Leeds United on February 26th.

In total, he registered 19 top flight outings this season, with 10 of those coming from the bench.

Winks’ only goal of the campaign came in a 3-1 FA Cup win over Morecambe back in January.
