Attacker latest

Newcastle were linked with Arsenal attacker Emile Smith-Rowe back in March, as per a report by Teamtalk. The attacking midfielder has fallen out of favour at the Emirates Stadium and is expected to move on this summer for a new challenge somewhere else.

In this latest update regarding his situation by Football Insider, the Gunners will ‘accept’ an offer in the region of £30million for his services over the next couple of months. It remains to be seen whether Howe is still interested in luring him to the North East or whether he has moved on to other targets instead.

Smith-Rowe, who is 23-years-old, has risen up through the academy ranks of his current club and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. He has been loaned out to Huddersfield Town and RB Leipzig in the past to get some experience under his belt.

The forward has made 115 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal to date, 19 of which came in the last campaign, and he has scored 18 goals.

He would give the Toon Army more competition and depth in attacking areas if they were to make a move for him. However, his price tag seems a bit high.

Smith-Rowe needs to find a new home and a change of scene would do him good as he looks to get his career back on track.

Youngster to join

Newcastle could be about to see off competition from elsewhere to land youngster CJ Afumuzor from Championship new boys Portsmouth. According to a report by AllNigerianSoccer, the teenager is closing in on a switch to the North East from Fratton Park.

He is said to be have also been on the radar of Aston Villa, Wolves and Manchester United after catching the eye in Pompey’s academy. At the age of just 14, he could be seen as someone as one for the future.

Tough night for Scotland

Former Newcastle defender Grant Hanley came off the bench for Scotland in the opening game of Euro 2024. However, it ended up being a tough night for Steve Clarke’s men as they were battered 5-1 by hosts Germany.

They were 3-0 down at half-time and were reduced to 10-men after Watford defender Ryan Porteous was sent off.

Hanley has made 51 caps for the Scots so far in his career and will be looking to start in their next game against Switzerland as they aim to get some points on the board. He plays for Norwich City in the Championship these days and left St James’ Park back in 2017 after playing 17 matches.
