Newcastle United told to make £50m move for ‘missing piece of the puzzle’

The Magpies have been given a strong message over their interest in the Foxes star.

Newcastle United have been told a successful move for Leicester City star James Maddison would ‘complete’ their midfield options.

The former Norwich City playmaker was reportedly the subject of two unsuccessful offers from the Magpies during the summer transfer window.

Maddison remains high on United’s list of priorities for the January transfer window and there have been reports a bid for the once-capped England international is being prepared.

Despite speculation surrounding his future continuing to dominate the headlines, Maddison has providing Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers with a rare positive in an otherwise dismal start to the season.

Maddison has netted three goals and provided one assist during seven appearances in all competitions, despite his side sitting at the bottom of the Premier League with just one point from their opening seven games of the season.

Discussing the situation surrounding Maddison’s future and his current form, former Leeds United star Noel Whelan praised the midfielder’s attitude and revealed what he believes he would offer Newcastle if they can make a successful bid in future.

He told Football Insider: “He’s been very mature about it. He’s not kicked up a fuss, and I think Brendan Rodgers will appreciate that.

“He’s been putting in the performances and the effort - and you can see what a standout he is even if Leicester aren’t winning games.

“I can’t see them climbing too far up the league between now and January. With his contract running down, I think Leicester have got to capitalise on that. They need the money if they’re going to go out and buy players.”

“He’d be a brilliant fit at Newcastle, I don’t think they have a player quite like him at the moment.

“He’s probably the missing piece of the puzzle which would give them the complete midfield.”
