Newcastle United are reportedly keeping tabs on Ajax attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus ahead of the summer. The Ghana international, who has earned 23 caps for his country so far, was at the World Cup in Qatar earlier this winter.

As detailed in a report by The Athletic, the Toon Army are ‘tracking’ his progress over in the Eredivisie. There will be competition for his signature though ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal also mentioned as potential suitors.

Newcastle could see Kudus as someone to add more competition and depth to their ranks ahead of next season. There is no doubt that Eddie Howe will need more bodies in his squad next term if they can get over the line into the Champions League.

At the age of 22, he would be a decent long-term option for the North East outfit and would inject more quality into their attacking department alongside the likes of Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy. He joined Ajax back in 2020 and has since become one of their most prized assets.

Kudus has made 82 appearances for the Dutch giants in all competitions to date and has chipped in with 23 goals, a whopping 18 of which have come in this campaign which will have alerted clubs from elsewhere. He remains under contract until 2025 but his future at the Johan Cruyff Arena remains up in the air.

Prior to his move to Holland, he spent two years in Denmark with Nordsjælland. He was a hit with the Danish Superliga side as a youngster and found the net 14 times in 57 outings.

Newcastle could now try and lure him to England but will need to see off other teams to get him. Howe’s men are back in action against Leicester City this evening.
