Red Bull Leipzig are increasingly confident of re-signing Timo Werner from Chelsa this summer, according to Sky Germany.

The Bundesliga outfit sold the 26-year-old to the Blues two years ago in a deal worth £45million.

However, Werner hasn’t enjoyed the best of times at Stamford Bridge, scoring just 10 goals in 56 Premier League appearances, compared to the 28 goals he netted during his final campaign in Germany.

It’s claimed talks between Leipzig and Chelsea are “running at full speed” in hope of reaching an agreement. Werner, on his part, is reportedly ready to take a drastic wage cut because of the great connection he has with the German club.

The final decision rests with boss Thomas Tuchel, who remains a huge fan of the player’s work rate despite his struggles in front of goals.

Newcastle have lodged a number of enquiries for attacking players with Werner among those to be linked with a potential move to St James’ Park.

Newcastle are said to have told the West London club they are prepared to pay a loan fee and pay a proportion of his sizeable wages.

The Daily Mirror also reported over the weekend that Chelsea would likely want to insert an obligation to buy clause next summer.

The Magpies have also shown interest in Armando Broja after his successful loan spell at Southampton last term.
