Newcastle United agree league record £24.6m deal - official confirmation awaited
Newcastle United are expected to sign the Stade de Reims goalkeeper Ewan Jaouen.
Ewen Jaouen is set to become the most expensive sale in Ligue 2 history as the goalkeeper closes in on a move to Newcastle United.
While the Magpies have yet to confirm it, sources in France claim a £24.6million deal has been agreed with Stade de Reims and Jaouen will put pen to paper on a four-year contract.
Jaouen joined Reims on a free transfer from En Avant Guingamp in 2023 after an administrative error led to his release.
As Reims competed in Ligue 1, Jaouen had a brief loan spell at Rodez AF before spending the 2024-25 season on loan at Dunkerque, whose sporting director is former Newcastle striker Demba Ba.
Reims were relegated in France’s second division and immediately installed Jaouen as their number one. While they only finished sixth last season, the 20-year-old played 34 games and kept 15 clean sheets - the most in the division.
Jaouen has never played outside of France’s second tier but is set to be their record sale should he move to St James’ Park for the reported figure, surpassing Patrick Zabi’s £21.5m transfer to Paris FC.
Newcastle actually made a late push to sign Zabi from Reims on deadline day in January but, after ultimately running out of time, planned to reignite their interest this summer.
However, less than a day after the winter window closed, it was confirmed Zabi would join Paris, with the move set to be made official on July 1.
