Sky Sports confirm Newcastle United medical as player en route to Tyneside to finalise £23m deal
Newcastle United are in the process of finalising their third summer signing.
Ajax midfielder Sean Steur will arrive on Tyneside on Tuesday evening ahead of finalising his £23million move to Newcastle United.
The 18-year-old midfielder is due to undergo his medical after an agreement was reached less than 24 hours after the Magpies confirmed the £100million sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle are using the funds to rebuild their squad, focusing on signing young players with high potential.
After signing Ewen Jaouen and Bazoumana, both 20 years old, from Stade de Reims and Hoffenheim, respectively, Steur further underlines their new transfer strategy.
The teenager has made just 26 appearances for Ajax after only breaking into the first team in December but those in Dutch football circles have tipped him for a bright future.
Ajax wanted to keep Steur, who verbally agreed new contract earlier this year but a change in sporting director put that on hold.
Sean Steur set for Newcastle United medical
Steur is expected to undergo his Newcastle on Wednesday morning.
Sky Sports News’ Keith Downie wrote on X: “Sean Steur will arrive into Newcastle this evening to finalise his move to Newcastle United.
“The 18-year-old will undergo his #NUFC medical tomorrow morning ahead of his £20m + £3m move from Ajax.
“Newcastle Sporting Director Ross Wilson agreed the finer details of the deal this morning — and Steur is set to become the club’s third summer signing.
“The club feel this shows, on the back of Bazou Touré, that it’s important to show that deals can happen both quietly and swiftly.”
