Newcastle United have urgent transfer priority after fresh injury blow & double exit

Newcastle United head into pre-season with no senior right-backs available.

Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento has undergone minor surgery after being ruled out of the World Cup through injury.

Livramento was named in England’s 26-man squad but was forced to withdraw on the eve of the tournament after sustaining a calf injury. Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah replaced him.

The 23-year-old was called up by Thomas Tuchel, despite missing the Magpies’ remaining five matches of the campaign with a thigh injury. Before that, he also had spells out with knee and hamstring injuries.

Following an injury-hit season, Livramento has “successfully undergone a minor surgical procedure” and is expected to return during pre-season.

Eddie Howe’s squad, excluding those who have competed at the World Cup, return for pre-season on Monday, July 13.

A Newcastle statement read: “We can confirm that Tino Livramento has successfully undergone a minor surgical procedure.

“The defender, who returned from World Cup duty with an injury, is expected to return during pre-season.

“Wishing you a speedy recovery, @tino_livramento.“

Newcastle United urgent transfer priority

Livramento’s absence sees Newcastle head into their opening friendly away to Gateshead on Saturday, July 25 without a senior right-back following the recent departures of Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth.

Trippier has joined Wolverhampton Wanderers following the end of his contract, while Krafth is still searching for a new club as he recovers from a long-term knee injury.

The Magpies are in the market for a right-back but have only made one breakthrough so far, with 20-year-old French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen joining from Ligue 2 side Stade de Reims for £18million.
