Newcastle United £25m bid & medical claim as second summer signing edging closer

Newcastle United are hopeful of securing a deal for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz.

Newcastle United are pushing to secure their second summer signing.

After completing a £18million deal to sign French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Ligue 2 side Stade de Reims, the Magpies have turned their attention to recruiting a left winger to replace Anthony Gordon.

And it is NewcastleWorld’s understanding that a deal for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz is edging closer following fresh talks in the last 24 hours.

The 22-year-old came through the academy at Real Madrid and made five senior appearances before last summer joining Osasuna, where he has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign.

Munoz scored seven goals and registered five assists, earning a place in Spain’s World Cup squad after only making his senior international debut in March.

And it was an occasion Munoz marked with a goal, scoring Spain’s third goal in a 3-0 victory over Serbia.

It’s been suggested Munoz can play anywhere across the front three, however we understand that the player is regarded as a direct replacement for Gordon on the left wing.

While Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson is leading negotiations on a potential deal, we can also reveal a key driving force behind identifying Munoz is Andy Howe.

In addition to our information, there have been several other claims regarding Munoz and his potential transfer to St James’ Park.

Fabrizio Romano claims Newcastle have sent a bid worth £25m and are confident are sealing a deal “very soon”. While Real Madrid have 50% sell-on clause and buy-back clause, the Magpies are “optimistic to proceed quickly”.

Meanwhile, El Chiringuito TV journalist Jose Alvarez Haya reports that should a deal be struck, Munoz would not be required to fly to Newcastle and instead undergo his medical in the United States.

Spain are based in Tennessee during the World Cup but kick-off their campaign in Atlanta on Monday against Cape Verde in Atlanta.
