Newcastle United transfer talk: Magpies move for ex-Celtic starlet ‘knocked back’

Newcastle United are one of a number of clubs interested in Jack Hendry.

Jack Hendry has been brilliant for Club Brugge since his move from Celtic in the summer.

The defender’s form has led to a number of clubs declaring interest, with Newcastle United one of those teams.

According to TEAMtalk, the Magpies had hoped to make a move for Hendry, however Club Brugge have rebuffed all enquiries into the player’s availability.

Eddie Howe is keen to bolster his defence in January, with his side currently conceding the most goals in the Premier League.

The Tyneside club have been linked with a number of defensive targets recently - including Burnley’s James Tarkowski and Manchester City’s Nathan Ake.

Who is Jack Hendry?

Jack Hendry made most of his senior appearances in Scotland with Dundee United and Celtic.

The defender joined KV Oostende after a successful loan spell in the summer, but made the move to Belgian champions Club Brugge only two months later.

The 26-year-old has shone for his new side this season, making 13 league appearances and six Champions League appearances - including a Man of the Match performance against Paris Saint-Germain in September.

Who else is interested?

As well as Newcastle, Burnley have also enquired about Jack Hendry after previously considering a move for him prior to his move to Brugge.

Like the Magpies, Sean Dyche is looking to strengthen his defence with Tarkowski likely do depart at the end of the season.

Dutch champions Ajax and La Liga side Sevilla are also eyeing a move for Hendry.

However, TEAMtalk have claimed that Brugge are in no danger of losing the Scotland international in January.
